Instructor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Elisabeth Nickels, PhD

Elisabeth Nickels, Ph.D., is a counseling psychologist with expertise in health and rehabilitation psychology. She specializes in adjustment to acute and chronic illness, injury and disability, chronic pain management and health psychology intervention. Dr. Nickels obtained a master of arts degree and a master’s degree in education in psychological counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York. She completed a predoctoral internship in psychology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance in New York and then obtained her doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She continued her training as a postdoctoral fellow in health psychology and psycho-oncology at Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Her research and clinical interests include the role of social and emotional factors in adjustment, health behaviors and quality of life in the prevention and management of acute and chronic health conditions. With a background in the arts, Dr. Nickels also has experience in teaching and performing music and theater.

POST-TEST RETAKE POLICY
You are allotted 3 retries to achieve the acceptable 75% passing grade.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is intended for psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and therapists.

The instructional level is introductory to intermediate. While the course provides a comprehensive overview of traumatic brain injury, professionals need to already have a foundational grasp on therapeutic principles such as CBT and mindfulness in order to adapt those treatments to the specific needs of people living with traumatic brain injury.

The primary format of the course is a non-interactive distance-learning recorded video or audio continuing education course.
